Gimme 5 Blue Shades Pack

Some words from the folks at Gimme 5 and we have also selected some music behind the Gimme 5 Blue Shades Pack Tees-

“The ‘Jazz scene’ daddio – Nice!
All joking aside, how can we at G5 HQ not appreciate the most significant and hep music synonymous with the golden period of coffee bars, grass, and
original counter culture?
Musicians such as Trane, Monk & Mingus not only played the meanest riffs but sported the coolest threads too, and we Brits were fortunate enough to
have a small but influential group of players on our side of the pond – It is these right-on cats we have chosen to celebrate in our latest pack.
‘Genuine’ Dudley Moore, ‘Killer’ Joe Harriott, ‘The Don’ Rendell, and ‘King’ Tubby Hayes!
Cop all 4 of these groovy t-shirts for maximum jive factor!
See you at Ronnie’s! Great!”

Dig in!

Dutch artist Piet Parra is a busy man and is known for his works across drawing, painting, animation and sculpture.  Parra produces vibrant, post-Pop imagery featuring hybrid figures with elongated beak-like noses and unique typography. His career began with drawing flyers and posters for music venues and he then went on to employ his eccentric, hand-drawn approach to illustration and design into fine art works.

Parra has had solo exhibitions in Paris, Berlin, Milan, London, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Miami, and Tokyo. In 2010 Parra won ‘Best Illustration’ at the Dutch Designer Awards and the Amsterdam Art Prize along with the D&AD Silver Pencil for Tastebuddies campaign the following year.

He has own clothing brand and a long list of collaborations including Nike (UK9.5 in the Amsterdam anyone?), Vans, Converse, Casio G Shock, Romance Cycling and most recently Pop Trading Company.

The Pop Trading Company collaboration sees Parra reinterpret the classic Pop logo with his unique artwork and typography and the capsule features t-shirts, Long Sleeve Tees, sweatshirt and a Silver Pendant by Amsterdam-based jeweller, Cristel Ball.

Dick Bruna & Miffy

Dick Bruna, (born August 23, 1927/ died February 16, 2017) was a Dutch illustrator/writer who was best known as the creator of of the Iconic Dutch character Nijntje (Miffy in English).  Miffy was featured in 32 books and translated into more than 50 languages.

Bruna’s father headed the publishing company A.W. Bruna & Zoon and it was expected that Dick would become a publisher. Dick Bruna was sent to work in bookshops in Utrecht and London and a publishing company in Paris in order to learn the business but Dick was more interested in art than in publishing.  In 1948 he enrolled in the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and joined the family publishing company in 1951 as a designer of book covers and posters.

Miffy debuted in 1955 in a book simply entitled Nijntje.  Miffy was drawn in simple black outlines with two dots for eyes and a sideways X for a mouth; subtle variations conveyed Miffy’s emotional state as she experienced differing adventures.  Bruna was honoured in 2015 with a showing of his illustrations and book cover designs at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and he received the Max Vethuijs Award in 2016.

For S/S19 Pop Trading Company and Miffy have partnered up for a capsule collection featuring the iconic character and you can view the Striped Crewneck Long Sleeve Tee by clicking the link below –
